Unified Wireless Networking Essentials

This course is designed to prepare students for the wireless network certification. Students will learn to design, construct, observe and troubleshoot a wireless area network. Topics include: essentials of wireless technology, architecture of unified wireless networks, setting up a WLAN controller, installation and configuration of wireless client software, enabling and maintaining wireless security and maintaining and troubleshooting wireless connection.

Wireless LAN WAN Technology
OPT 460
Wireless data networking connects people around the globe. This introductory course focuses primarily on WLAN (wireless local area networks) and WWAN (wireless wide area networks) to help keep students up-to-date with this rapidly evolving technology. Students will learn and understand the differences and similarities of these technologies; for example, while both connect you to the internet, WLAN works with a limited geographical area but allows for faster data transfers and WWAN works over larger areas of land and so requires more time for data transfers. Students will acquire an understanding of security and troubleshooting wireless networks and demonstrate their understanding in real-world activities.

RFID Testing and Troubleshooting, Design & Site Analysis

OPT 461
Focusing on designing, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting RFID equipment, this advanced course prepares students for RFID certification. Topics include: radio frequencies and wavelengths, factors affecting radio frequency, RFID site analysis and installation, design configuration (i.e. applicable frequency, tag and antenna style, installation choices) safety regulations and procedures.

Introduction to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
OPT 462

RFID technology transmits a subject’s identity wirelessly. Usually, a small electronic device- such as a ship- serves as the unique identifier for that subject. The modern use of such technology is almost limitless. Commonly, RFID serves to help manufacturers track good for inventory and production purposes. It is also used for payment methods (EZPass for toll booths) and security control (electronic badges in lieu of keys). As RFID equipment becomes more commonplace and sophisticated, inevitably it will become less expensive. This will allow for more companies to utilize the technology to improve business practices. After completing the introductory course, students will not only comprehend the purpose of RFID technology, they will comprehend the applications of it in current and future markets.

Fundamentals of Wireless Mesh Technology
OPT 458

This course provides an overview of this incredible technology. While lectures give students the background knowledge necessary to understand how these networks function, lab instructions allow them to turn theoretical knowledge into an operational system. Wireless mesh networks use nodes (small radio transmitters) to share a network connection across expansive areas of land. Information passes across the network by moving from one node to another. Within a wireless mesh network, only one node must physically connect to the internet in order to share its connectivity with other nearby nodes. This technology is advantageous in today's market because it is inexpensive (as few wires or equipment is required) with adjustable connectivity speeds depending on how many nodes are in place.

Advanced Concepts and Practices of Mesh Networks
OPT 464

With our advanced course, students will explore designing, managing, and troubleshooting wireless mesh networks. This course also previews evolving mesh technology and its role in corporate and consumer settings. Students will delve into complex theories regarding practical current and theoretical future applications for this technology. They will also study uses of mesh technology in everyday business and personal applications. Using the knowledge they retain, this course culminates with an opportunity for students to design, generate, and maintain a wireless mesh network. From your conception of this small scale model, you will better comprehend large utilization of wireless mesh networks.
